NY Inspection Question
All,
Has anyone failed NY inspection due to tints? Did you have to get them removed? If so, any places you suggest in the north NJ/Rockland area that can remove tints at a reasonable price? |

Most shops in NY won't pass cars with tints anymore. The state/county/municipality is going after shops that do. They can see when and by who the car was inspected by and fine them directly as well as you.

I guess another question then; does anyone know with certainty the exact law? It is a little misleading as i read it. I know front windshield and front windows is a clear 70 limit, but for the rears it says you need to be 70 or above UNLESS you have 2 functional rear view mirrors. Seems clear, until then the next bullet says "if you have a passenger car (as an m2 is), then 70 is the limit for rear windows. Which supercedes which? Anyone have insight here? Basically, is it legal for me to have say, 30's on the rear windows of my m2 so long as the fronts have at least 70s? |

The law for New York State is no darker than 70% on Sedans and Coupes, if you have an SUV the 70% only applies to the front windows since most SUV’s come with factory tinted glass on the rear.
