Tyres
Has anyone tried Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on their GTS? (Do they do the correct sizes.?) They transformed my CSL when I swapped out the Cup tyres in terms of comfort and noise with very little drop off in performance. Cheers. Brian

I have MPS4S on mine. Works great. If you are tracking, they will overheat and get greasy faster than a Cup tire, but are much better for daily use.
265/35/19 in the front and 295/30/20 in the rear. |

I put PS4S on my GTS, then I tracked it at Buttonwillow and Autoclub Speedway. They held up great... They arent Cup 2s, but they do come close. If you want to drive to a quick auto cross event or canyon run, you wont be disappointed... I mean you shouldn't be at least, but subjectively speaking, I like them a lot. Other than using Cup 2 and PS4S, Can't imagine putting on lesser tires other than trying to save money.

I know there are several tire threads so sorry if repeating questions already answered-
Can anyone point me to a resource which explains the differences between the Michelin Cup 2 part numbers (Michelin USA website) in identical sizes? I'm a tire noob and just had mine replaced at the dealer with the star spec OEM, apparently not as sticky as other Cup 2. Also any disadvantage to going up a bit in size next time - either 275/35/19 or 265/40/19 front (no 285 19's on website) and 295/35/20 rear. I am hoping for just a little more sidewall for wheel protection. I'm thinking 305 would rub in the rear but anyone done it? I will not be lowering the car to track height. Thanks! |

If you go with 265/35/19 and 295/30/20, the sidewalls are both >3.5" which is plenty. 275/35 on the front is not a bad idea, similar height but a little more width to dial out understeer. If you go to a 295/35, the rear tire is more than 5% taller than stock. Not sure if it will rub. For the same reason, I wouldn't do 265/40 - 4% increase in height over stock. |

I contacted Michelin (twice) and they confirmed that they would not recommend the use of 4s on the M4 GTS, in fact they strongly opposed the use! I don’t really understand this even though they make the tyres in the correct size for both front and rear the latter having the star rating.

The Sport 4S is perfectly fine - you don't need BMW star spec either. |

I just discovered my car has these tires, and they look to be OEM (2016 date stamp)? Was this an optional tire here in the States? https://www.michelinman.com/tires/hi...-season-4.html |

A little more front tire would be great for this car though, especially when you see what the competition is using (305/315 on GT350R for example). |

Do you mind posting pics of the 305 rear setup?

They're posted here on the board by someone else. I'm getting those after my next track day.

That being said, if I knew Michelin strongly opposed their use I would have not done so. OP, did they tell you why they advise against this? |

No to be honest their customer service which used to be exemplary is now pretty poor. BMW say you must only fit star rated tyres! I hope they bring out a star rated tyre for the fronts. Cheers.
