Question on brakes for serious track use

Hi All,

Just picked up a M2C which will act as a track car. I have a lot of experience with track cars, building and upkeep...

Is there any opinion of AP Racing BBK vs Alcon BBK - the race version of each?

Thanks

Ray

Both likely more than you will ever need. The M2C brakes are good enough with different pads and brake fluid. The only benefit I see with going AP is reducing unsprung mass.

Agreed. Personally I swapped from 2nh to ap and didn't see a significant in braking performance. Theoretically the heat capacity is even smaller with smaller rotor diameter 400mm to 374mm.

The only benefit of ap is to be able to fit 18 inch wheels which enables a large variety of slick/semi-slick tire options

THIS...Being able to run 18's allows you many more tire choices either in 200 wear Streets, or R compounds.

I doubt that the slightly smaller swept area on the AP's has any measurable Heat sink difference. I did several track days on the AP's and they were awesome. Also pad swaps take just a couple minutes per axle. FOr a track junkie either brake pkg is well worth the investment. I also was able to sell my 2NH's to another member to help cut down on the cost of the AP's.

Last, if you're on budget, you only need to swap out the fronts to get 18's on at all 4 corners. I did this for a few track days then added the rears at a later date.

Hi All,

Thanks, sounds like it boils down to best deal. For now I will just do the fronts as I am also doing the suspension!

HAZMAT, we probably have met each other, I instruct with the Boston chapter as well, Previous car was a GT3 with big stupid wing and grey with stripes... I would love to chat with you, I am in Carlisle MA

Hi Ratcher: "Both likely more than you will ever need." - coming from a GT3, I suspect that it will be close but not quite as good :-)

Thanks
