Exclamation Which synthetic motor oil

Hi,

Under the hood it says 0W20 Motor oil and when i look online, it says 5w30.
Since my car have been in a car accident before and they did change my hood i was wonderinf if the 0w20 sticker is a mistake.

My Car : 2016 428 Xdrive Grand Coupe.
And i live in Canada, very cold in the winter. Sometimes -30c

Also which synthetic oil brand do you suggest ?

Thank you

I'm new to this forum. sorry if the question have been answered before. I searched for the topic and didn't find anything.

Really? It's one of the most often covered over the top topics here. For instance this, four years old and still going strong:

It's pretty quiet on the oil front right now, as it's winter, when people tend not to do oil changes. It will get more raucous come spring, when those of us in the colder climes should be doing an oil change.

Castrol 0w-30 Euro is suitable for your needs and climate.

Make sure it's the 2022+ formula with the gold label: https://www.amazon.com/Castrol-06244...s%2C125&sr=8-1

Just be sure you use the right AMOUNT of oil. If you have N20 or N26, that is 5 liters, not 5 quarts. If the container is 5 quarts, add 9.5 more ounces or so to make 5 Liters.

If your car is still under warranty, use BMW approved oil.

I started using motul xcess gen2 5w40 in my car last spring. I'm sticking with it. Car runs excellent.

I also live in Canada.

I change my oil about every 10k kms.

BMW recommends LL17FE+ for your car which is 0W-20. Not too many oils outside of BMW available in North America with that certification. Motul Eco-Clean 8100 is one of them.

If 0W-20 is too thin for your liking your engine is also compatible with LL01 and LL01FE. Just try and get a 0W-XX oil because of the following note out of the BMW oil compatibility list:

"In countries where the ambient temperature frequently falls below --20 °C, we recommend the use of 0W instead of 5W products."

Is this the N20? If so 20w oils were a back spec vs 0/5w -30 & 40.

For the N20 I would run a LL01 0w30/0w40. Castrol has recently re-launched LL01 0w30. Castrol 0w40 would be fine as well.
