I left oil filter cap too loose and oil sprayed around. How do I know how much to add? 328i xdrive 2016 wagon

Add a half pint, check the level. Repeat if required.

You can check the oil level using the iDrive system

It says oil level is normal, but when you ask it to check, it stops at 15 %. I added a quart, then thinking about it and afraid I had overfilled it, I removed a little over a quart. Then I got a message to add oil. I added 1/2 quart, it went back to oil level normal, but the check continued to stop at 15% and I drove around to be sure engine warm enough: no noises, or changes in operation and it still won't read more than 15%. OBD codes all normal.

Is this possibly a sign that the oil pressure sensor is faulty? I am tempted to replace it...
