I have never heard of a spontaneous catastrophic failure of any tire my whole life.

Well, your tire did, on your car, cause unknown. Bridgestone makes a lot of Alenzas (49 sizes), so it would probably be difficult to calculate the total percentage of Alenzas blowing up globally based on this n of 1 (190 million tires annually by Bridgestone - not all Alenzas, and more on the road of course). Since I've also never heard of this on an Alenza EV tire, ever, using this number (1) would produce a lot of zeros - just guessing, but maybe .0000001%. Or less. Can a tire blow out? Absolutely. Are Bridgestone Alenzas blowing up? We now know of one.
