The speedometers of BMW's (and almost all other German cars) are purposely offset by ~5%. Seems stupid (and in many ways, it is) but it's due to extremely strict EU regulations regarding how production cars can never, under any circumstances, show an indicated speed slower than what the car is actually traveling.
This regulation is so strict that manufacturers are forced to program an offset into the speedometer. So to answer your question: top speed of the car is an indicated 155MPH, which is more like an actual 147 MPH if measured by radar, GPS, or some other form of speed detection. It's advertised by BMW as 155.
so i was doing some reading up the 328xi and i found that some places said the sport package increases the top speed to 147 and some said it increases it to the limited speed of 155, i was wondering if you knew which one of these is correct?
