Japanese auto makers are now in trouble..
Their image of fuel efficiency is being debunked, and now their cars will be rightfully priced lower than what they are.

The prius doesn't use its electric motor on the highway.

Did you just link an article comparing a diesel BMW to a gas hybrid prius? Of course a diesel got better mpg then a gas based ANYTHING. Prius gets nowhere near the mpg it's supposed to but your statement that "Their image of fuel efficiency is being debunked, and now their cars will be rightfully priced lower than what they are." was pretty ridiculous.

No it hasn't been. In the last couple of years, diesel prices skyrocketed. Diesel prices are at a RECORD high. I read it earlier today on the Latimes.

Q: Why is diesel more expensive than gasoline and why is it pricier than it ever has been?

A: While diesel fuel traditionally was cheaper than gasoline, that's no longer the rule. The Energy Information Administration marks September 2004 as the turning point when the price of diesel fuel generally has risen higher than regular gasoline year round, not just during winter months when demand for heating oil, a cousin of diesel, puts pressure on the market.

Did you know that the swastika used to be a religious symbol before it was adopted by the Nazi's?? Depending on the context in which something is used, determines the meaning of it.
Just because I use "jap" doesn't mean that it has a racist meaning.
Now would be a nice time for you to find some common sense for yourself, and stop trying to be a politically correct Nazi.

I don't have an account on zpost, so what you are trying to say is that I posted a thread that has a similar link in it to that of one on another forum??
I noticed it when checking my email on yahoo.

What I'm saying is that the Japanese are going about fuel efficiency all wrong. (at least from what I can see) BMW was able to make a few small changes to their car and get pretty much the same MPG's, while Toyota made a completely new car to achieve 'green' status. I believe that if BMW were to go 'green', they would be able to do it much better.

It's pretty sad when all of you jump on a bandwagon just to make yourselves seem a bit more smart. Did any of you really read my post clearly??

Not to be an ass or anything, but the VW Jetta TDI does about 50+ mpg. Don't get in over your head about BMW is superior to all.

I know that the TDI also gets great gas mileage, I was looking at a Golf TDI myself to save gas. However, the VW is a European manufactured car as well as BMW, so it falls under 'Euro'.. While Toyota, Honda, etc.. fall under 'Jap'. (a.k.a. Japanese for all of you who like to be politically correct.)

I'm not saying that BMW has the most superior cars on the market or anything.

What are you jabbering about?? Context?

Maybe you didn't read the link, but I'll give you the first couple of lines:
"Jap is a term originally used as an English abbreviation of the word "Japanese." Today it is regarded as an ethnic slur, though English speaking countries differ in the degree they consider the term offensive. Japanese Americans have come to find the term controversial or offensive, even when used as an abbreviation. In the past, Jap was not considered primarily offensive; however, after the events of World War II, the term became derogatory"

So unless you got in a time machine and posted from the early 1940s, it is a racial slur. Hillbilly.

And you didn't mention my second point which is that the Prius's electric motor is not used on the highway. It is a car that was designed to be efficient in CITY driving.

Here, i'll try to help someone out who derives most of their knowledge from Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Context_%28language_use%29
It's a racial slur depending on how you use it, Canuck. You should never assume someone is part of a group just because of where they live. You see, unlike 'hillbilly', 'Canuck' relates to all Canadians in general.. Although it isn't as offensive.

I did address your second "point" as well, I supplied you with a link to educate yourself. Inside the link, which you click to open, it will give you a break down of the route they took from London to Geneva.
Quote:

The test had taken us along just over 200 miles of autoroute, about 200 miles of B roads, including winding ascents and descents in Switzerland, and 100 miles of urban driving.
While on the topic of "CITY driving", I guess I will add in that cars were invented to travel long distances. When in a city, one would be better off buying a moped/scooter to save gas.

So of the route 80% was what would be considered highway driving. So, as I mentioned, that would bias the test away from the Prius as its advantage is an electric motor which provides assistance at speeds below what one would do on a highway.

And what does someone who needs to carry cargo do if they live in a city and want to save gas and pollute less? A moped is not a suitable substitute for a car.

Since you really want to debate the appropriateness of the word "Jap" lets examine the context of you're remark. Your thread title is that Euro is greater than Jap. So the context is one of comparison where the item you believe to be lesser is referred to by a term that is widely viewed as derogatory. My guess is that in your little world, the term Jap may be used fairly frequently and you didn’t know that there was anything wrong with it. But it is an offensive term.

Perhaps, when you graduate from high school and go out in to the real world, your horizons will be broadened and hopefully your maturity level will improve.
