bmw restraint system warning help
We had an encounter with a deer the other night. It ran into the car and did some minor damage but the bmw restraint system lights are on.
How can I reset them? Can I reset with BimmerLink? Does it mean that all airbags are currently not working? If I reset the sensor will airbags work again? Any help with this is appreciated. Thanks |
First check the current fault codes. You can scan them using bimmerlink

If I clear the code and it does not return, would that mean that the sensor is fine or will it still need replacing? |
Its hard to know the issue without fault codes. If the airbags didnt deploy then fault might be somewhere else. Maybe pedestrian protection was triggered.
Best option is to scan the faults and see what is present after clearing the faults. |
The code is 930a2c: upfront left airbag front sensor - interruption
I’ll try to clear it tomorrow and see if it reappears |
How’s the deer?

I saw her cross the road, I stopped but she continued to run and sideswiped the front of the car. Cracked the headlight, grill and front bumper. Rolled over a couple of times, stayed down for 2 minutes, got up and left. So yeah, I’m actually not sure if she ended up dying in the woods. |
Code 930a2c
Front left light airbag sensor. I tried to clear with BimmerLink and it keeps failing to clear. Any ideas why? If the sensor is damaged will it not clear? I was thinking it would clear and reappear if it was damaged. |
Check on the sensor itself, may need to be replaced
|
the fault is not going to clear until the damage is fixed and the system is properly working, put the comp claim in and get the car fixed. Until then you are going to be driving with an airbag light and with it being the front impact sensor that could cause issues with the SRS system if something else happens.

If no airbgas popped, then the code seem to reference that the sensor or wiring is damaged. I would inspect the sensor and area and take needed actions. Should be straightforward.
If you have BMW ISTA it should tell you better information about the code and a test plan/action to try and resolve the issue. |
