They hype, overcharging and small inventory even in So. Cal. will only last part way into the first year of production. After then you will probably be fine placing a deposit and or ordering to your liking just a few months before you want the car. If you are happy to grab one right of the lot then you won't even have to worry about a few months advance planning.
