You should have considered this coverage when getting the new car, if you are already driving it, it would be tougher to get any discount off the tire insurance coverage.

Haven't picked it up yet. I got it once on my old one, and didn't have to use it. On my current e90, I didn't get it and had to replace a 17" tire - which wouldn't have made it worth it. @ 19", it would get up there for tire and rim...
