Only because that's what the RedLine tech and my motor builder for my E36 told me to do. The 40 weight requires more energy to circulate than the 30 and will theoretically run hotter. I bought a case so I'm good for two changes. I will try the 5W40 next and compare the two if I don't try the 10W40. It should be better than factory fill. I personally think the Water Wetter will provide more cooling than the new oil.
