I drove an M4 without adaptive suspension. IMHO, it was great. Not too soft, not too hard. In other words, just right. I drove on the pretty shitty roads around Baltimore too. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how this compares with adaptive suspension on the M4. But I do have EDC on an E92 M3.
One thing you will notice is that there is a blank button where adaptive suspension button should go. I hope that's not enough to cause concern for you. If I were you I'd be bummed that I'm not getting exactly what I want and (thought I) ordered. But it wouldn't stop me from getting the chance to get the car that much sooner. However, if you're patient I'm sure the dealer will have no trouble finding a buyer for your order, so I wouldn't worry about getting back in line for another.
