Have you've driven a modern day turbo car with peak torque from 1500 rpm to 4000 ish? It is much improved from turbo lagged on off throttle pedal cars from few years back.
Mpg rocks on these newer turbo cars. Just go test drive one. If you don't like M3. get he Cayman GTS. Awesome sound and driving feel. Not as awesome as previous gt3rs engine noise but next best thing.
