Think of it this way. How does AWD help in these scenarios?
- emergency braking situation
- emergency swerve to steer out of danger
Those two reasons above are why I HATE the hype of AWD. I live in the suburbs of Chicago and just started my BMW repair shop. I have seen a big rise in people buying AWD BMWs and it just hurts me deep down inside. Not only are they not buying a true BMW, they also paid a higher premium, they will have quite a bit higher maintenance costs, and the only benefit is better acceleration from a stand still. It's madness!

in other words, you are basically saying that during winter(snow) any car with winter tires will perform better than a car with all season tires..
so i can put winter tires on my m5 and have no problems instead of getting an SUV.
