Ok I might be able to make it out of mid town as you say getting in a cab isn't the worst of ideas. how far is it away. my kids are young but not babies so my parents can usually handle anything. just don't want to be over an hour away. maybe I'm over estimating how large and how far away places are in the states.
I'm 30-40mins from London and have no issues going there for an evening out without kids.
