It's not the exhaust note that is the point here, but the distinctive popping on the GTS over any M4.
Listen to the video in the second link in the OP, and you hear the same effect from the front of the car.
At this point I definitely think that sounds like a quite aggressive anti lag system.
I remember reading a test drive of the M4 safety car a while ago. Did that mention throttle response? I do think so. Will try to find the article tomorrow.
