I was going to put Opti Coat on my X5 a couple of years ago, but the installer said that it reduces the shine a bit. I have read about this on various forums as well.
However, the newest version of Opticoat is supposed to be much better when it comes to gloss and shine.

For my 'old' 335, which my daughter now drives, which is left parked on the street, I went with Gtechniq Crystal Serum, which is supposed to be really hard, long lasting and has a great glossy shine.
It was only done a few weeks ago and yes, it looks great and it's still quite slippery. Cost me $495.

If you are careful and regularly wash and wax your car, you can get away without any of these ceramic coatings.
When I look at the 335, it's 6 years old, but looks like it's a year old; actually it looks better than the 3 year old X5.
I used Opti Seal paint protection, which is a spay on protectant regularly and I think that may have helped; it certainly made it shine.
