Tampa is pretty similar size to Raleigh. Everything is pretty much new in the downtown, and lots of planned growth to come. The airport is one of the best in the USA hands down.
Hasn't been direct hit by a hurricane in over 100 years I believe at this point as well. Also some amazing fishing. If you like Raleigh I think it'd be a crime not to check out Tampa.
Other option is maybe… Austin? Might be too far from big water for you though.
