It has been confirmed the Bucks were someone the Mavs also approached about a trade and they were obviously denied. They apparently approached the TWolves, too.

It's still probably not a great trade just because Doncic is 6 years younger and he isn't trying to be DeAaron Fox....Doncic takes his time and he uses that to his advantage. Jokic is obviously a prime example of guys who aren't in any rush and won't be winning any physique contests but they get the job done.

I suspect the Mavs were worried he would re-sign for the supermax and then demand a trade a year or two later. With current cap rules, it's not that easy to trade a supermax or any big contract and get much in return. The Bucks just experienced this with Khris Middleton. Ironically, the trade probably guarantees that Luka has a chip on his shoulder about his conditioning and never again is out of shape in his career as a result...
The problem with that is Luka has been very vocal about wanting to be a lifer in Dallas. He's never made any indication he didnt want to be there, and neither has anyone in his camp.

As for viewing the trade, you can grade the trade now, end of season, in 5 years, whenever, and its still a completely shit trade.

The Mavs got worse. Period. AD has missed over 1/3 of games the last few seasons and is 31. Last year was the healthiest he ever has been, missing just 6 games, and he was NBA 2nd team. Thats his ceiling. (in comparison, Luka has been NBA 1st team the last 5 seasons)

There are also rumors now that his latest injury will require season ending surgery. The Mavs roster was being dragged to wins by Luka. AD hasnt been that kind of guy in awhile. Kyrie can get hot at times, but isnt someone you can consistently count on to be the #1.

And for those that say AD brings more defense to the team than Luka ever did, last season, Luka had a 113.8 defensive rating per the advanced stats, AD had a 114.0.
