A ceramic coating on the wheels goes a long way to lessen the effort needed to clean them. You'll still need mechanical agitation to get them fully clean, but it'll be a light effort. There are thin microfiber wheel/wheel barrel cleaners out there. That's quite thin - are you able to easily replace?
