That's certainly the more fiscal way to go. The E36M is also a much better DD than the E30M. The E30M is and will only get to be more of a cult classic. $17,000 for a good conditioned one now, before any engine swap. That price will just keep getting higher. E36's are plentiful enough that they can be had for $6-8,000 now.
E30M = legend.
E36M = fun car.
