The inlet is the portion of the canister in which the piping ill be connected to. So if something has a 2.5 inlet then that is the width of the inlet, meaning you would probably want to run 2.5" piping. The tip is what will be sticking outside of your rear bumper So the bigger the size of the tip then the bigger the two holes in the back.
