In the end I decided that I am just going to take hunting more seriously, and eventually my grandfather is probably just going to give me a shotgun/rifle (He has 100+). Handguns are simply too risky and dangerous, and I don't want to have one until I'm more comfortable with firearms in general and I'm 21.
