I'm reluctant to try an abrasive or a rubbing compound but I will if that's the only choice. Unfortunately the stain is nicely centered on the hood so if I mar the finish it will be very obvious.

Hey selmeralto,
Gotta post a detailed picture of it to make a judgement. Bugs are bad, period. The longer they stay on and bake, the worse it is. Some type of compound is necessary I'm sure.
