Unfortunately it looks like the head unit is being replaced to support the Android based iDrive 9 -

So earlier X1 builds will remain on the Linux based iDrive OS and it won't be upgradable to the Android based iDrive OS. But with that being said they said they will still continue to update the Linux based iDrive.
