M has their work cut out for them. The M235 was one of the most uninspired BMWs I've ever driven.
The problem was worst at UDE, where you'd squeeze the throttle out of a turn only to wait, wait, wait for the traction control to decide the wheels were straight enough to give you the power you're asking for.
If it drives right, kudos for an X1M.
