There are quite a lot of chargers out there and available for public use. I would encourage you to look into that. The supercharger network is at least on paper better. It probably is in reality as well but you can go across the nation in an EV. It's not for lack of charging.
The real issues are stop frequency and charge times on freeway slogs. Stopping every 200-250 miles to charge for 30-40 minutes would suck. That happens in Tesla too though.
For an around town or within a few hundred miles of home an EV is pretty compelling now.
