Phev battery to ice question

Under hard acceleration, should the engine kick in to assist the battery? Twice it has left me wondering, the first time I overtook a car and expected the engine to come in but only the battery was used feeling a little underpowered. Second time to test it, I pull out of a junction and pushed the accelerator to the floor but not activating the kick down switch and again it only accelerated on battery power. Is this normal as I thought anything over about 50% would have brought in the engine? If I pull the boost, the engine will kick in.

On ours the engine kicks in fairly keenly, give the throttle a firm quick prod and it wakes up and adds power quickly. I don’t drive it that much but haven’t found a time it didn’t kick in when I’ve expected it too.

I don’t know the actual point it triggers, sometimes sudden presses wakes it jp more than you expect it might others if you’re stready it doesn’t. Never found a time it hasn’t woken up to make swift process though.

It starts up if you kick down, but I avoid doing that, especially on cold days, as the engine is cold and revs hard upon waking. Sometimes, I let the car idle in S mode for a couple of minutes to allow the ICE to warm up for such situations.

Yes, mine kicks in under hard and sometimes not so hard acceleration without any intervention from me.

Thanks all, I’ll have to play a bit more as my feeling at the moment is that it will only come in on mine if I use kick down, which I hate. I’m quite progressive with the throttle and maybe I need to push quickly and see what happens.

Tried today and the engine on mine doesn’t kick in on hard throttle, only on the kick down or if I pull the boost paddle. Snicking the gear selector from D to S also immediately turns on the petrol engine

Maybe you have enabled the option to activate automatically electric mode at start?

As mentioned above that doesn’t seem right, if I for example accelerate only a motorway and want to gather a little more speed it kicks the engine in, I definitely don’t need to hit the kick down or really press hard it can be quite progressive.

I’d check some of the settings doesn’t seem quite right somehow.
