What type and brand of fuel do you use?
Hi all,
What fuel do you put in your M340i? I'm based in the UK and currently use Tesco Ultimate 99. Interested to hear what everyone else uses and if there is a noticeable difference in fuel types? Cheers |

I use Shell 98 Ron here is Aus as I find it burns cleaner (less carbon build up on the exhaust) as compared to when I've used 95 Ron. Performance wise it feels slightly more responsive on 98 but that could just be placebo! |

I always try to get Aral Ultimate 102 (US 96 Octane). Has served me well in the past, no issues and most engines will produce a bit more power (especially with a tune). With an Aral membership it also costs the same as normal 98 fuel (Super Plus in Germany, US 93 Octane). For my Diesel only Shell offers a performance fuel, but in contrast to Ultimate 102 I haven't noticed a difference so I just get standard Diesel.
The members across the pond unfortuantely don't have the luxury of high performance fuel. |

Using Shell 91 V-Power 90% of the time, it is a recommended one.
Tried Costco 91 and honestly do not see much performance difference. Also reading up on Costco quality, it is ethanol free and probably drawn from the same refinery. I'm not 100% sure on Costco, and I do not drive as much due to work from home, price difference is not an issue at this time. |

Shell V Power 99 RON UK
I think it makes a slight difference over time but mainly use it because it burns cleaner. I know I'm being ripped off but hey.

I use 91 octane, usually from Costco but sometimes from Shell. Always from a top tier supplier.
93 is not an option in Arizona. All the high test (how's that for an old term?) here are limited to 91 octane unless one gets racing fuel. |

There's a Costco not even a mile from my house so that's where I fill up 90% of the time. It's the cheapest and has a Top Tier rating with the premium 93 I put in.
When I travel the preferences in order is: 1. Costco 2. Shell 3. Any other gas that's rated Top Tier. I avoid Sunoco like the plague for some reason I get noticeably lower fuel economy after using their gas.

Exxon Mobil 93...I was using Sunoco 93 Ultra, but saw they dropped their standard as a "top tier fuel" due to COVID. Not sure if this makes a difference or not, but still seems to burn like a charm!

Dan, not an expert on our M340s as mine hasn't even arrived yet, but spent a great deal of time behind the wheel of various race cars on weekends. I don't see any reason why a higher octane fuel would be a problem in these cars. Most ECUs in modern day BMWs and the like can adjust for when the fuel is firing in the cylinders. Now if you went too far the other way the engine may not like it, but we used 100 octane race fuels in cars much less sophisticated than these with no issues...

Shell 93. Seems to be held in high regard. Bonus: the stations are never too busy and paying through the app is nice.

3.75 gallons E85 and the rest 93 octane fuel from Shell, BP or Costco.
