Live Cockpit Pro with HUD

Question and yes I have searched and found very little on this....

Is this $1,000 option mostly just the heads up display? I had HUD on my F30 and liked it (was pretty basic in 2014). I guess the question is with IDrive 8 and such a robust screen in front of you is it worth it or overkill?

Opinions welcome and appreciated!

Thanks

I think most here will tell you it's worth it. Once you have it it's hard not to want it in every car. It has turn by turn directions in NAV, plus it gives you performance/track data in the display. There is also the resale component to this argument

Thanks Zero! Helpful. As few use actual navigation these days, does it provide directions by way of CarPlay-Waze?

Not with Waze or Google Maps.

For $1,000, I'm skipping it if it's just the HUD. I already have it on my M240i and I find myself turning it off often, specially at night. Maybe if it was an OLED or individually lit pixel unit, I wouldn't mind it as much, but the backlight causes a really obnoxious glow on the windshield.

I’m in the exact same boat so skipping it this time around

Dont forget as a driver wearing sunglasses that are polarized, it is near impossible to see the HUD.

I accidentally got a pair of Ray-Bans that weren't polarized because I chose them really quick at sun glasses hut as my 2nd pair for a buy 1 get 1 half of deal(the first pair was definitely the priority). I think I'm just gonna keep these in the m2 as my dedicated driving glasses. I prefer polarized but don't think it's necessary with the roof over my head, tint and such. I fretted over not being able to see the HUD with polarized sunglasses at first, but in my x3 I got over it quickly. Reading this thread again helped me consider the options and I think this will be a simple fix.

Definitely not a reason for skipping the HUD though.

Wasn't saying necessarily a reason to skip the HUD, just bringing it to everyone's attention for those who dont know or a reminder for those that do.

I didn't originally spec it on my car, but it's coming on my HEA. I have a HUD in my Mazda CX-50, it's so-so. Sometimes it annoys me.

I also wear polarized sunglasses.

We'll see how I like it, but I'm also hoping there's a way to turn it off if I don't like it. In my Mazda, there is no way to turn it off.

Didn't think you were. Was just highlighting that the usefulness of the HUD far out weighs the irritation with polarized sunglasses.

I definitely appreciated the reminder though cuz it helped me cycle through my sunglasses in my head to think of which ones would have the tint I like for driving, but not polarized, so thank you.

You can turn it off (at least on my x3 I can) and I am guessing it will be much more useful than the Mazda one. There's also the resale value that helps justify trying it out.

Good to hear. Looking forward to trying it out.

If one adjust the angle within ID it can be improved. YMMV

You can do it through voice commands. Hey BMW turn off/on the head up display. Much easier than digging into 7 touchscreen menus.

I don't buy the resale value argument. These cars are going to be scarce for a while. I don't think many potential second hand buyers are going to turn down a 6MT car because it doesn't have a HUD.

Or get BMW sunglasses…

These polarized BMW sunglasses apparently don't make HUDs disappear ... https://www.autoblog.com/amp/2021/07...nglasses-test/

This is hilarious. Another solution they can sell us for a problem they give us.

You would be highly surprised. BMW enthusiast often know exactly what they want and they tend to be unwilling to deviate from it as well.

They can stand in line like the rest of us and pay MSRP then, lol.

There are always individuals that have got to have it now and will forgo the lines by gladly overpay someone whom is flipping.

I suspect shortly after the launch, we will see HEA G87s on BaT and Cars & Bids. It will not take long.
