Went for the 135, faster, better brakes, more nimble, lighter (a bit) and AU$28K cheaper. It was a no brainerfor me.

Most of us would agree with Jockey. In a week, you'll probably be able to drive both. If you can't wait, use the search tool to explore the many posts on this topic.

Oh great another 135i or 335i thread.

On 1addicts they will tell you get the 135i.

On e90post they will tell you get the 335i.

Go to the dealer and test drive the 335i and 135i, then "you" make the decision. The 1ers should be at the dealer really soon.

Personally I'd rather have the 135i over the 335i even if they cost the same. 335s are a dime a dozen. Ultimately, if you don't need the extra space of the 335 then why have it? Main differences are the 135i is a tad more performance oriented (with a host of after sale performance upgrades from BMW) and costs less while the 335 is slightly bigger and a more luxurious interior. For sure the 135i is more fun to drive too. Insurance should be about the same, as well as cost of ownership.

Same as all the others here, go to a dealership and try both cars.

They both have great points in their favour and negatives agsint them. So it will come down to personal choice.

I chose the 1er cos it was a much nicer drive...but that is me.

well i assume when you say you can get either one you mean money wise...

in my opinion, if they cost the same money money right now , assuming the 1er is the more ridiculously priced, i would go with the 335. But it really is up to you...what are you looking for in a car?

1er is NOT ridiculously priced at all. BMW Financial Services Lease rates are. That's a very different distinction. The 135i is a bargain in comparison, if you ask me, price-wise.

It very much depends on what you are looking for. The 335i is more of a GT car.

ok i take that back...i just mean how you can walk out of the dealership right now with a 135 or a 335 for the same money and that makes no sense in my opinion.

True for most perhaps. But 335s being discounted means they are plentiful and that discount should later translate to a lower resale value for a zero sum gain. For me I paid $4,545 under MSRP on the 135i so from my perspective the 135i wins in any way I wish to compare. Still I'd rather have the 135i than the 335i for the simple fact it's far more exclusive (will be rare to see on the road for some time to come) and it's got a performance advantage. Plus, having owned a 2002 way back in the 70s and a big fan of the 320i that followed, I think the 3 series has grown far too big and heavy. For that reason alone I have a hard time liking them.

IS it really that high of a percentage of people that lease these things? The 1series is priced right. If you are trying to lease so you can get into a car you really can't afford, boo on you. That's not what leasing is for. Then again, its that thought process that got us into this housing fiasco as well.

135i is cheaper, if you pay cash, but it might be a wash because it seems like leasing and financing is cheaper on the 3-series (at least if you compare a 335i sedan vs. 135i coupe).

And of course, the dashboard of a 3-series looks like it came from a mid-80's Buick.

Have a nice day!

Quite frankly the 3-series has gotten too big. It's bigger than the 5-series was 2 design generations ago.

the 335 is a GT car now. Most of us hope the 135 will make us feel like were flogging around a e30/e36 around the track with better technology behind it:w00t:

You guys are going to love your 135's. A car 200lbs lighter, tighter package, better tsc, 6 pot brakes, M wheel, and a price that makes me think "NO BRAINER",,,

Its going to be an instant classic, btw,, I have a hard time finding traction in second from any kinda roll. With the help of a little $350 mod. Plug and Play.

That definitely puts things into perspective. The 3 series has definitely "grown up". I think the 3 had to "grow up" especally in the face of new competition, like the IS and G35. If the 3 would have stayed with its original ethos, it would have definitely lost a bigger market share.

While a lot of us on the boards like the fun to drive factor, most 3 series buyer value the luxury stuff more.

No one likes change, but it had to happen. Good think there's a 1 now!

which mod are you using? juice box or turbo tuner?

btw, the traction problem just means there's too much torque. my friend's modified jetta would break the tires in any gear, but it wasn't fast at all just torquey as hell. Speed comes from high rpm power (example: M3, ferrari 360 - both relatively low torque but very fast cars). yes you need a certain amount of torque, but after that minimal amount is met, the extra torque just helps daily driving (or slowly towing), not WOT acceleration or moderate acceleration in low traction situations (like coming out of a turn).

I test drove a 335i sedan - and was blown away by the car. I really loved the steering wheel and the paddle shifters. The constant torque at any rpm makes me reconsider automatic transmissions. I'm tired of shifting (all my cars have been stick).
I test drove a 135i briefly - and initially, coming from the 335i, the steering wheel felt too thick. Is this something that goes away? For this reason alone I'm leaning towards the 335i coupe - although I still have to drive one.

Secondly - the 135i seemed to shift much faster than the 335i. Do they share the same steptronic or is the 135i updated?
