Driving Assistant Plus Software Update

The car informed me there was an update for the Driving Assistant Plus, so I elected to apply it, that must have been a week ago, it's still in progress. It tells me to contact BMW to discuss solutions! Any one else having this issue?

Curious if the update included transmission?

I feel a patch is on the way for that lag on the DCT.

It has to just be related to stop start. So dreaded to think that might be the reason

*Sorted*

I had to do a system reset by pushing the roller radio button on the central console down for 30 seconds. Then when I drove the car the next time the up date installed without a hitch.

The lag isn’t due to stop start though, it happens when the engine doesn’t stop so a dct / clutch / throttle control issue it looks like. An update could help with the software that’s controlling it all maybe.

Isn’t the whole point of a dual clutch transmission is the clutches are already set to hand off a gear. Essentially eliminating almost all of lag in changing gears.

I’ve driven PDK on Porsche and also the Old DCT on the M3 and the throttle response was immediate.

I know it’s all electronic and mapped. People really need to speak up- it’s the only way solutions happen. Making me very wary of taking delivery of an x1 if this will be a daily occurrence. My old car I want to trade doesn’t even do this.

The issue is initial getaway where some DCT are at their worse, they are effectively controlling a clutch where your foot used to do that, a torque converter is very different.

So when you roll up to a junction or are stopped and suddenly want to go it needs to quickly engage that clutch. In the early DSG / S-tronic cars that could been quite a sharp and sudden jerk, they have made it better but there is always a compromise.

In the X1 that initial phase seems to be laggy, due to several factors, but what the fix is I haven’t got a clue. It’s part of the reason we went for the 25e amongst others.

That start off lag could also be the turbo...that "take off" issue existed in any turbo BMW I've owned

I highly doubt there is any substantial turbo lag, as the turbo used in most modern BMW’s is engineered to minimize lag. Maximum torque is often produced below 3000 RPM. Engines still accelerate even when not under boost, albeit at much less power. Like I’ve said in other posts, I highly suspect it is the throttle tuning, since the lag disappears as soon as you put it in sport mode. If it was turbo lag it would be present in all situations, and probably even more noticeable in sport mode. My e90 n55 had a bit of throttle delay as well but was gone as soon as I added a reflash from Cobb, even in stock boost level maps.

The X1 switches gears quickly, but there is a tiny bit of delay from when I click the paddle to when it actually shifts. Driving in full automatic the car shifts fine on its own, and the actual gear changing is really fast. The DCT does seem to stumble a bit at low speeds, and sometimes doesn’t feather the clutch very well, but I believe this is common with DCT transmissions.

If it's a throttle body issue then this Dinan product would resolve it...

It might actually, I’ve been looking into stuff like that but it doesn’t bother me enough (yet) to spend a couple hundred dollars on something I hope BMW will fix soon. I’m assuming since the X1 has so many powertrains options around the world, and the US/Canada are pretty much the only ones getting the 28i B48 motor, we might have a completely separate software version than ROW, or it’s using the same throttle map as other powertrains and isn’t optimized for the 28i. Seems our UK brethren don’t suffer nearly as much delay with the hybrid powertrains. Or we’re all wrong and BMW is laughing at all of us.

I don't want to bum you out but I don't think BMW sees the "lag" as an issue and therefore will never distribute a SW uodyae...they never did on previous (more expensive) models (like my 2020 x3mc which has a noticeable turbo lag as did my '19 x3m40i....in any event, Dinan products are pretty solid. I had a Stage 3 on my '16 m235i which was super stable so this product is probably a-ok as well.

Sadly, you’re probably right. It was noticeable on my ‘20 4 series but not as bad as this. When I’m at a spot where I’m stopped and need to accelerate quickly I’ll flick it into sport shift and change it back as soon as the maneuver is completed, but it would be nice to not have to do this. If sport mode didn’t hold the gear for so long I would just drive in that mode all the time.

Give that Dinan device a try! Might be the cure you're looking for! Couple hundred...I would test it out on my wife's X1 but $250US sadly translates to ~$400CAD with taxes, duty and of course $1.34 exchange rate...

I may eventually, but right now I'm more focused on finding a good set of aftermarket wheels in the perfect fitment.

Your newness to this forum is showing While I certainly sympathize with you since my own thread has been hijacked, you’ll quickly see here that nothing stays on topic no matter how hard you try. I’ll refrain from drifting off topic in your thread going forward, but I wish you luck!
