CarPlay, Maps, and low fuel.
Noticed this feature for the first time yesterday. I got down to 30 mile range and received the urgent warning from the car to get fuel. I had Apple Maps up at the time, and upon that warning Maps automatically offered to search for fuel stations nearby.
Thought that integration was cool and unexpected |

That's pretty cool. Too bad Apple doesn't allow better integration of 3rd party navigation like Google Maps. In my area Google is often more accurate, and it would be nice to have the same level of integration into CarPlay.

This is frustrating. I love that Apple Maps can display in the instrument panel, but it is just inferior to Google Maps. I have tried to like Apple Maps, but it has tried to take me miles out of my way, has dumped me off on the wrong block (behind my destination), and last week, sounded out "Dr." as "derr". If I really need the traffic info or need to trust the accuracy of the route, I just can't in good conscience use Apple Maps, even though it would be really handy to have it in the instrument panel and free up the main screen.

Did you notice that Maps uses the phone battery quite a bit during a trip if CarPlay is used, but not Apple Maps per se?
I changed the location settings to "only when using app", no improvement. I have uninstalled Apple Maps, and the phone battery improved dramatically. I reinstalled the app since some other apps automatically use it for directions, and the problem came back. For example, the phone battery shows 31% of battery used for Maps while the app was never used but we had a 8h round-trip with CarPlay and BMW navigation. I didn't see the same problem with Waze or Google Maps. Last edited by PatL; 02-11-2024 at 10:49 AM.. Reason: typos |
