Launch Control

Has anyone been able to get launch control to work? Is it disabled on US models? I’ve followed the instructions in the manual exactly and I can never get it to work.

Is there some trick to it I’m missing?

Thank you!

From the manual:

DRIVING OFF WITH LAUNCH CONTROL
1. Turn on drive-ready state.
2. Activate drive mode: "SPORT".
3. "SPORT PLUS": activate settings for driving dynamics.
4. With the left foot, press down forcefully on the brake.
5. Engage forward gear.
6. Press and hold down the accelerator pedal beyond the resistance point at the full throttle position, kickdown.
A destination flag is displayed in the instrument
Cluster.
7. The starting engine speed adjusts. Wait briefly until the engine speed is constant. Keep the accelerator pedal in this position.
8. Release the brake within 3 seconds after the destination flag illuminates.
The vehicle accelerates.
Upshifting occurs automatically as long as the destination flag is displayed and the accelerator pedal is not released.
REPEATED USE DURING

Didn't know these 4 cylinders had launch control...really? My '20 x3mc had it, as did my '19 x3m40i, both 6 cylinder vehicles. If this vehicle supports launch control, I'd be surprised. Even an "m-sport" version...

It sure does.

Instructions from page 120 of the X1 owner's manual:

Driving off with Launch Control

1.Turn on drive-ready state.

2. Activate drive mode: "SPORT".

3. "SPORT PLUS": activate settings for driving dynamics.

4. With the left foot, press down forcefully on the brake.

5. Press and hold down the accelerator pedal beyond the resistance point at the full throttle position, kickdown. A destination flag is displayed in the instrument cluster.

6. The starting engine speed adjusts. Wait briefly until the engine speed is constant. Keep the accelerator pedal in this position.

7. Release the brake within 3 seconds after the destination flag illuminates.

The vehicle accelerates.

Yeah, I read the OP's post...you just copied and pasted what he'd already posted above....doesn't prove it has launch control, just because the manual tells you how. Manuals are written to cover all aspects of a vehicle but some features may/may not work if not installed.

So, if this vehicle indeed has a launch feature, I assume you've used it, correct?

sorry about that. my bad. I always read the last posts first, before reading the OP's original question.

anyway... my policy is to never confirm or deny anything on a public from if it may or may not incriminate me. But I suppose if one had used the said launch control more than a few times, one's reaction was probably "yippeeee!!!!"(or so I've heard)

I accidently mentioned this forum while talking with my BMW service manager a couple of months ago. When I saw him again last month, he mentioned that he saw my X1 pics posted here. Apparently he was a frequent poster on the 5-series section.

So is there anything I’m missing? Or do you just follow the manual exactly? Thanks

And by the time you do all this, the car next to you is down to the next intersection..

You're absolutely correct!

I literally just did a launch control a couple of hours ago to commemorate my X1 reaching 5000 miles tonight. Took a few seconds to go through the steps to launch. It's just for furn.

Definitely do not want to take on the NSX like this X1 driver foolishly did.
