Only Electric drive available. Drivetrain fault.
Well, my X1 25e was running brilliant till today.
I noticed the engine light up (service run) while I was driving fully electric. When it switched to fully electric again I "maintained battery charge" for some kms more for the engine to run and then I run the car fully electric again. While arriving home the following messages appeared as shown in photos. It seems the engine cant run. Maybe its an issue with the normal battery and not the high voltage? Not sure. Do anyone here got this messages before? Will have to get it to the dealer but obviously its going to be tuesday. |

Update!
Went to the car again and everything is working fine. I could start the car normally. I had a test drive in all modes. Sport mode (engine running), personal mode (hybrid running) and full electric mode. No faults at all. In the BMW app the issues are marked as "resolved" now. The only thing that remains is the "check engine" yellow light that appears on the control panel. But without any issues. Even when I go to the service menu, "check ok" is displayed. But the "check engine" light remains. I know that if you have around 3-5 free issue drives the check engine light will go completely and the fault will be cleared but stored in the unit. Lets see Bruh software glitch? 12V battery dying slowly and giving some signs? Saw a lot of issues around internet with 12V batteries, giving false hybrid system faults and drivetrain errors. Last time I run the engine for long time was about 40 days during a trip. Maybe the car needs to be run more often in petrol mode or the battery gets sick. I think I need an OBD reader.. Update 2.
Took the car and “engine light” completely resolved. Will call dealer and have a talk. Idk why but I am betting that battery is getting on low voltage |

Interesting and strange at the same time. Could be the 12V battery as you say, will be interesting to see if the dealer scan picks anything up. Thanks for the info to date

Shall we take bets on the dealer being useless and saying "We can't find anything wrong"??
(Despite all the old fault codes being available in the car's logs, if they actually cared to dig). |

Will call them to arrange a visit.
I believe its the 12V battery getting low voltage for 2 reasons: 1) It was almost one and a half month since driving fully with engine to recharge the 12V. I was driving fully electric. 2) I used yesterday the preconditioning twice with a very hot day while not hooked on the charger. But what worries me is that the high voltage battery is supposed to take the load of the air pre conditioning and not the 12V battery. I guess the initiative and monitoring systems are tied to 12V battery. And I dont get why the 12V is not charging every time the high voltage battery is charging. (or its charging and my battery is going bad) Last edited by Lantirn; 06-08-2025 at 10:41 AM.. |

Had the same few months ago but I had only 4km of battery charge left so driving further was not an option. Called road assistance and rhe only thing they did was resetting the system. All messages cleared and did not came back.
Went later to the dealer but they couldn’t find anything wrong, concluded that it was probably a communication error between two systems. Last edited by jan1970; 06-08-2025 at 06:36 AM.. |

Called the dealer and he was able to check the error messages remotely. He asked me to put the car in diagnostic mode (3 times start stop button very fast) and then I had to grant them permission to download all the stuff they wanted.
He told me that he saw some messages regarding bad communication between some units, but it looked to him as software issue. He asked me if any update was done near (which wasn’t the case). 12V Battery is fine. He told me that should it happen again they might have to do some programming again. He didn’t clear the messages to have the history still in the car. So far so good, I have done almost 500kms with no issue. |
