Brake Noise - Help

Anyone with horrible brake noise? I took mine for service and they called me today saying that due to being a high performance brake it's normal to make noise.

It's a screeching noise, like a ghost screaming. I don't believe this is something normal, and not sure what to do.

Really disappointed with my X1 and all the issues I've had.

What are the parameters when it does the noise? Speeds, brake pedal pressure, etc

It's usually when I'm braking below 20 mph.

Sorry , but you dont give much information to weigh in. Such as:
>Which vehicle 28i?
>Do you have standard brakes or M?
>At what speeds does sound occurs?
>Does it away happen or just somethings?
>Does it sound like the. Sound is coming from all the brakes or just some?

2024 X1 M35i.
Below 20mph
Very often - warm weather, cold weather, rain or sunny.
Sounds like a tea kettle.

Seems to be normal BMW performance brake behaviour tbh. Have a listen to the brake noise from the M2, M3, M4.. all very squeaky when braking to a halt.

Its very annoying. I experience the same on my iX1.

The easiest, and quickest (temporary) fix is to apply iron remover when washing the car (brakes have to be cold! Do not apply hot hot brakes!)

For a better, longer lasting fix, change the stock brake pads to e.g. akebono ultra premium, or posi-quiet, but for a performance car, performance brakes will typically always be loud. Theyre designed to brake hard and fast.

Same here..............

The noise cause the rear brake pads of semi metallic by BMW, you may try to replace them by CERAMIC, I have some friends who also owners of iX1, they already solved this annoying noise after replaced the rear break pads.

I was told the same .. "performance brakes" bla bla.
For me, it was a tiny rock chip between the caliper and the rotor and at slow speeds when the pad moved (those 0.0002mm) it touched the rotor and created a "dying cow" sound that scared pedestrians on the side walk

I've had at least 10 New M cars and none have ever squeeked, it's not normal at all.

I honestly dont know what is considered normal anymore 🙈

Some friends with M cars say its normal, even BMW reps say this is normal, and other friends dont have this issue at all.

My X5 and X3 (non M cars) dont squeak at all. But my iX1 squeaks all the time. When I went to BMW to get it checked, they put it down to the regen braking blah blah blah. I feel they are clueless

Yes, they have already replaced with ceramic. most of peple use Japanese brand Dixcel (see screenshot below) and they are just replace with rear brake pads only, the front break pads keep original.

I have searched at Amazon, but not find the same one.

Yeah. Because regen braking doesnt actually use the brake pads/discs. It slows the car by driving an electric motor backwards as a generator.

Exactly my point. Theyll say anything to avoid dealing with the actual issue or finding a solution. One excuse after the other
