So Car Magazine did an independent GTR vs Porsche GT3 Mk2 "Nurburgring Challenge".
Here are the times: GT3: 7:49 (Porsche claims 7:40) GT-R: 7:51 (Nissan claims 7:26) Now I'll attribute the differences in times to the driver not knowing the car nearly as well as the test drivers from Porsche or Nissan. A 9 second difference with the Porsche seems acceptable, but 26 seconds from the Nissan GTR???! Sportauto magazine has tested the GTR in their next issue as well, and the rumors say that Horst Von Sauma (well known Nurburgring test driver) couldn't get near Nissan's "official" Nurburgring time. Driver's Republic did an independent test and could only manage 7:55.9! http://magazines.drivers-republic.co...c/thetruth030/ Is it time to call shenanigans on Nissan? ![]() ![]()

yea, i still think the time that nissan claims is a little too good to be true... i mean the nissan would flat out beat a carrera GT, Zonda F and a GT2 (according to their sport auto times) if it could do that time for real...

I don't think the GTR can beat the Z06 on the Ring let alone a Zonda or Carrera GT.

Not to mention the Porsche is worlds harder to the drive than the GT-R.
I simply cannot believe that car beating a CGT, Enzo, or Zonda around the ring. I'd believe mid-low 7:40s, on par with a GT3, or Z06.

Everyone has been debating this record ever since the GTRs launch.
Nissan had a rolling start and i also believe they said they had a different finish point compared to its starting point. Either way a stock GTR is never gonna do what nissan claimed.

loll very long.. On track days they don't count the straight away because people pull out of the parking area and that would be an accident waiting to happen. I think on closed circuit days they do.

In regards to rolling start, thats how Porsche times their laps. You'd think these obvious things would be pointed out by Porsche in terms of unfairness. |

No it didn't.
The Timer starts just as the GTR passes the end of the Green wall on the rh side. Just before the first corner. The timer stops soon as the GTR comes round the last corner, it then drives down the straight which is untimed and pulls into the pit lane. This pit lane entrance is the end of the Green wall where the timer started in the beginning. In the start of the video it takes about 6secs for the GTR to cover the straight before the timer start. So no they didnt include the straight and that lap should have been about 6 seconds longer.
