Who pays on the date? First date is always the guy, but what about after?

Do you prefer paying for your girlfriend or do you like 50/50?

I take care of my lady, but if she ever wants to pay, I let her. I would say I pay around 95% of the time.

all jokes aside, this is how it is in reality with my girl. if she offers to pay, i never say no because i never know when the next time will be.

It depends. At first the guy should pay. After a while they should take turn. In America it's "ladies first" so technically the women should pay every time but I'll digress. hehehe

What's it like when you're in a relationship?

I know that technically guys have to pay and then it becomes 50/50. But I've found myself in a pickle >_> She is like a bagillion times wealthier than me. UGH!

Dating guys should almost always pay or atleast offer to but there are some girls who are very stubborn and demand to go dutch or they pay but I date only asian girls and they have no problems letting the guys always pay. When you get into a relationship though, it becomes a little more even like you can pay for dinner and she can pay for movie tickets or you pay for tickets and she pays for the snacks but strictly for dating though, I would say the guys should pay.

This is why guys end up destitute after a divorce. Women get used to a certain way of life (i.e. never having to pay for anything) and then insist that they maintain that lifestyle when the relationship ends. It's bullshit.

My chick and I both make the same salary (I make double when bonus is factored in) and her culture dictates that the man always pays. Well when your cost of living is zilch and you're the sole breadwinner then it's a no brainer, but in the US when both are working and making good money and the cost of living is quite high then there is no reason why one person should go broke supporting 2 people while the other gets to shop and spend money on herself. I spoke up right away and said that her expectation was completely unrealistic and she understood (though I do hear grumbles now and then). 3 years later we own a condo together and things are working out quite well. There comes a time when reality and practicality (read: fairness) has to take over.

I genuinely believe that the "but it's tradition" is outdated and completely unrealistic in modern times. When you could buy a house for $15,000 and a car for $2,000 it was easy to live on a single income but times have change. Don't get me wrong, I pay to go out to dinner or go see a movie 95% of the time but when it comes to a mortgage and other costs involved in a long term relationship, it's time to have the talk. There's a big difference between a gentleman and a sucker.

I think guys should always pay the first date as long as they were the one that asked out the girl. After that it depends on who makes the money I guess. I usually take turns paying with my girlfriend. I would say I pay the more expensive meals 90% of the time and I pay a little more often, but it is nice that she offers to pay a lot as well.

In the dating stages, I think the guy should pay the majority of the time; it's just the gentlemanly thing to do. If the girl, however, insists on paying her share, just let her. Not worth arguing over.

When you're married or living together though, it's a whole different ballgame. But that's not what the OP was asking about though.

I also think it's interesting that this 'rule' of who should pay varies from culture to culture. In Egypt, it's extremely bad form for a man to let a woman pay for anything, even if they're strictly just friends.

Guy pays first couple times then 75% of the time until dating. Then 50/50 once bf/gf.
I believe in chivalry, but they've gotta chip in unless you're married.

But there's some logic behind that as well. Women make up around 20% of the workforce in Egypt so the expectation of an unemployed woman to pay is unrealistic.
