CCBs (lack of) performance in the rain
Took a trip this weekend from OH to TN. The way down was a pretty awesome drive with hardly any traffic that gave me the opportunity to stretch the car legs a little.
Totally different story on the way back today. It was raining all the way and found out that the CCB brakes are pretty useless in the rain. The first time that I hit the brakes, the car kept going straight like nothing was going on. It took a long time for the brakes to warm up and then bite. After that, I had to be on top of them and leaving plenty of space between my car and the car in front of me. The brakes have been flawless in the dry so far. |

This has been covered several times and also mentioned in interviews with the previous M-boss. The stopping power is reduced significantly in the F8X CCBs in the wet. It's par for the course.
In fact this is probably more of a characteristic of CCB in general and not exclusive to the F8Xs. But others xa chime in on that. |

So for $8,000 you can get brakes that don't stop in the rain.
Sounds like a good deal to me. CA

Even in near freezing temps. That is based on first hand experience of ED pickup and driving in the rain at autobahn speeds, as well as local NY/NJ driving recently. You can, and will, exceed rear tires' traction with enthusiastic application of the gas pedal, but that is hardly tires fault ! a

The PSS's are really good in the wet, not so much in the cold.

That is sad to hear OP, but I bet many folks who get them are aware of it. I know that my sales person went over the pros/cons of the CCBs when I was on the fence about them.
Honestly I think the worst is yet to come though... when it comes time to replace them (new pads and rotors). But you made it back safe and sound, and that is what's important in the end. |

Still doesn't mean they aren't outside their optimal operating temp. That's 40° IIRC...

Imho select CCB for track car or show car so no regular need to drive in the rain. If you do get stuck out then downshift to engine brake, apply pre pressure to dry early and leave more distance for safety.
Standard brakes best for a daily driver. |

And BMW wants no parts of those brakes for warranty issues. I hear the repair costs are mind blowing. They're beautiful though.

Apparently, as has already been discussed here, they removed the warranty exclusions and BMW service program exclusions for CCBs after the M3/4 came out. You can take a look. The exclusions are gone, so ya they are covered.. You probably, however, void that if you track the car. They got rid of the exclusions likely because of the extended life of the components under normal use. So it makes sense not to antagonize potential customers over something that will rarely if ever happen.

With that said, I did notice that initial bite was reduced until the brakes were warmer (after sitting for a few days and it was in the ~35 F range outside). That being said, in the numerous times I've been in the rain the outside temperature wasn't terribly cold. Could have also been the case on regular P car brakes. I've not had a lot of driving time on a Porsche that was sans PCCB. If I do end up buying the M4, I'll probably still get the CCB's. It doesn't rain too terribly often here, and as long as it isn't downright dangerous for places where I go that it does rain, I'll be happier without brake dust and a longer mileage rotor.
