Uninstalled JB4 detected at dealer
Not my car, but thought I would put this here from n54tech. Thought Jb4 was the best bet from a warranty perspective. Might as well go BM3 now and stack Jb4 on it.
2013 F30 335I M-Sport (Bone Stock) Long story short uninstalled my JB4 to get car to dealership for engine light on, but no errors. After uninstalling everything the car is now giving me a drivetrain malfunction. Dealer took the car and now are saying that the DME needs to be replaced, but they will not cover the replacement under warranty. They stated that according to BMWNA remote diagnostics the cars data logs are reporting that at some point the car had some sort of piggyback on the car causing the DME to malfunction. Now they want $2600 for repairs! What are the chances it's a TMAP short? Can I fix it by grounding TMAP or can I pull DME and re-solder necessary points? Any diagrams/instructions on solder points? Can I take it to a different dealer and see if they will fix it under warranty or is my VIN now flagged? I wont be able to get codes until I get car back from dealer!

Update: user installed/uninstalled JB4 without battery disconnected. He doesn't usually do it this way, but "got lazy". He damaged the ground trace on the DME. Car is now flagged by BMWNA for any DME related warranty items.
He put the JB4 back in and car is fine. I guess JB4 bypasses the DME ground trace.

Read a post on the m4 boards that BMW is now following Audi in it's diagnostic procedure. Much more thorough now in that no matter what the car comes in for it is hooked up to the DME for diagnostics (brake pad change, oil change, etc). If anything is detected it auto flags the car. The tech has no say in the matter. I think they mentioned the scan tool as been updated as well to check for tunes/piggy backs. BMW techs in the post have confirmed this.
Long read, but it starts to focus on DME diagnostics. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1327330

This is the kind of thing that scares me and makes the $1500 extra for Dinan installed at a BMW dealer seem like a very small amount of money for no hassle peace of mind. Keep the car a few years that amounts to like $1 per day for not worrying.

Went Stage 1 on dad's sport wagon had it installed at Thomson BMW. Definitely wanted all the work done by both an authorized Dinan shop and BMW dealer. M235 is going for Stage 2 with resonator delete next week The xDrive convertible is not as quick as my RWD coupe was, figured in for a penny in for a pound and go Stage 2 right away. That said it is nice that if you go Stage 1 and want to upgrade you just pay the delta and like $50-75 more for labor since you're redoing a bit of work.

I had the same thing happen with my f22. identical.
drive train malfunction, engine light etc. I too removed all after market parts when I took the car back, the boost sensor and dme had to be replaced. I told them I connected a odb reader so they were aware of this. however they replaced everything under warranty, I live in an Area where modding isn't common so I put it down to that. |

If it was awhile ago your car may not have undergone the new BMW diagnostic procedure.

There isnt many 235s going around in my state so I assume the service center prob doesnt know what mods flag like. That said, the dealer did say he sent something away for approval from head office before they replaced my DME. Im sht scared to put the mods back on, + i think i blew my jb4. |

Stage 2 on 235, if you believe Dinan's numbers, is 382/455. Not sure how that translates to 240.

Dinan's site advertises for the M235 adds
S2: 73 HP & 84 lb-ft of torque S3: 128 HP & 113 lb-ft of torque If they do something similar for the B58, and there's every reason to believe they WILL.... YOU do the math..... http://www.autoblog.com/buy/2017-BMW-M240/specs/ 335 @ 5,500 rpm Horsepower 369 @ 1,520 rpm Torque |

BEM I'm with you. I was going to pick up the dinan sport tune when it comes out for my 230i but I'm going to hold off now. If I go the tuning route I will spend the extra cash and get the dinan stage 1. I can't justify any mod voiding my warranty.

If they dig deep enough, ANY tune can be detected. People shouldn't be buying a piggyback thinking its removal will eliminate all trace of the install - despite what some vendors will tell you.
