F30 M Performance Brake Pad Replacement Procedure?
I apologize in advance if this is already covered in another thread.
Does anyone have a "how to" guide, with pictures, on how to replace the pads on an F30 with M Performance Brakes? Is it easy or should I cough up the dough and have the shop do it? |

As for your question - it's honestly absurdly easy to replace pads on M Performance calipers. Do a bit of reading in the above directory and add in a few you tube videos. A small punch and mallet to tap out rattle clip, needle nose plyers for wear sensors (one front, one rear), vice grips to push in caliper pistons, brake pad grease placed on face of the pads that press against pistons. Reverse order from removal to put in. Easy!

I actually had my wheels off earlier this week and it appeared that the pads slip into the caliper. Your response reinforces that. I'm installing new pads because the OEM are DUSTY!
Thanks for your input! |

Yes, it is a very easy DIY. I found a Subaru STI video that I followed and it was pretty much the same. I wish all brakes were this easy to work on.

Can anyone recommend a good replacement brake pad for the regular gray caliper brakes on the Msport cars? I had ceramic pads on my camaro's brembo calipers. Are there any good quality ceramic brake pads available for our cars? |

There's a DIY over on the F80 M3 forums. It might be similar enough to use: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1116901
Some tools that would be useful are a Lisle Quad Pistol spreader and a Brembo caliper punch pin. Here are some screen shots from ISTA+: Last edited by Polo08816; 05-01-2016 at 09:48 PM.. |

Does any one have the ISTA+ details on removing the calipers and replacing the disc rotors? Does anyone have the specifications for replacing the rotors? Any rotor replacement DIYs for the M Performance/Brembo brakes? How do the sensors work on these brakes? Do they only indicate when the pads have worn through to the sensor? or Do they also somehow indicate life remaining for the pads? I believe the brake service indicator in iDrive is only a time based setting and it doesn't use this sensor at all, correct? |

You can take a look at the appropriate section of the TIS for more maintenance tips: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/
