Cost in UK
A chance I might move to UK in the next few years. I bought a USA 2023 X1 a few years ago.
In the US, we have the cost of the Car, Insurance and then Car registration through our State. In the UK, I know I would have the cost of the car, but what else and how to price out? Thinking of same car? MOT Car Tax Insurance anything else I need to worry about? |

Oh also, some people also purchase GAP insurance. It pays out if your car gets written off or stolen, and pays the difference between what you paid for it and what the insurance company pays (which will be less). Don’t buy it from the dealer (despite the pressure to do so) - there are better / cheaper options available online.

Car tax depends on the list value of the car when new. If over £40k list price then car tax is around £600 per year for the first 5 years as it it deemed a luxury car tax. Set many years ago and they never increased it annually, robbing gits! Insurance depends on your age, location and other factors, so difficult to give an answer on that one.

I got the factory hitch. My bike rack slots in to the hitch receiver.

Insurance is reasonable, given its performance. It doesn't need an MOT for the first 3 years, and then it's about £50 pa. Annual 'road tax' is £51pm. Not sure about new car tax as its changed. Just had first service at 2 years, which seemed reasonable (£400??). Tyres need replacing soon, so will be about 20k miles. The real plus is the car will do 40-50 miles on a full charge. This is what she uses over 90% of the time. Only using petrol on longer journeys. We have a home charger with cheap overnight rate (7p kwh), so it only costs about £1 to fully charge the 14 kw battery. It's very cheap motoring if your usage is similar.
