Hybrid Turbo upgrade

Just today I received an OEM turbocharger from Germany. It was for sale on eBay at a reasonable price. See 2x photos of the stock turbo below, the exhaust manifold and the compressor assembly had been separated for inspection. It had 650 miles put on it before BMW removed it for some sort of evaluation.

I'm now sending it to Poland. It's headed to MuchBoost for upgrading. A "hybrid" turbo is one that retains the factory exterior (to keep it "plug n' play) but then the internals are upgraded and machined. This will make it more efficient, more capable. For instance, at high RPMs and coincidentally high boost, the stock turbo loses efficiency: air temperatures and air mass suffer. This hybrid improves that and facilitates more power. To quote a Google search:

"Billet construction allows aluminum compressor fins to be much thinner than a cast steel alloy wheel, less blade thickness makes a greater efficiency range, and the more efficient a wheel is the lower the intake temperature.

More Air Flow
Machined by 5-axis impeller CNC the blades can be designed in a much more complicated way and much more curved to increase blade surface area, which can flow more air into the engine. A smaller nose and hub allow for a greater blade diameter, High and long blades increase air intake & performance.

More Durability
Using forged billet aluminum to avoid porosity issues, won’t have microscopic air bubbles which create weak spots. This makes the billet compressor wheel much more durable than the standard cast compressor wheel."

I'll be updating this thread with the progress and outcome. And as an aside and fun fact, our turbocharger is a Mitsubishi product.

The forum won't let me link to the webpage for some reason, does anyone know why?
You'll need to go to Muchboost's website and the turbo is labeled as such:
B48A20 MHI Hybrid Turbo Upgrade BMW X1 M35i U11, X2 M35i U10, M135i F70, Mini Countryman U25

LMAO you know it!! And thanks for being kind about my endeavor, I appreciate it brother. I'm a sucker for being the underdog, and the struggle to overcome. I'm certain it's the result of some childhood emotional damage

It won't let me link it for some reason! Go to:
Much**********
^^^^^ see how it puts up the asterisks!?
Ok so type:
Much(boost).com
Without the parentheses!
And search:

I just gotta ask one thing (I’m legit asking not just trying to be a jerk) - if you are unhappy with the car to the point that you’ve done multiple performance and appearance mods so soon after purchasing the vehicle, why did you buy it instead of a different model that has more high end potential?

Can the B48 handle it? Yeah, but can the DCT? The transmission’s manufacturer rates it for 400nm of torque (7DCT-400 per a BMW parts website). It’s already sitting at that straight off of the showroom floor. What’s the logic behind trying to generate more power if you can’t actually put it down without risking blowing the transmission?

Good questions!
You wouldn't have had to put the disclaimer, you're the one person on here that I expect to be constructively critical, and the one person that I would not take offense to whatever you asked or said! Your reputation precedes you :-)

1a. I HATE that my behavior gives off the idea that I am unhappy with my car. The idea that this is what my modifications suggest actually hurts my feelings. I genuinely LOVE my U10. In my 26 years of car ownership, this is by far my favorite. I'm so incredibly proud of this car. I regularly kiss it goodnight as I tell it how beautiful and wonderful it is! There is not another vehicle in existence that could improve upon my ownership and driving experience. I had an '20 X3 m40i. I had a '22 X4 m40i. Yes they were leased, but I barely even washed those cars. I had no interest in either of them, other than thinking that I loved the coupe styling of the X4 and was glad to be rid of the character-less X3. I modify the X2 in ways that I consider to be upgrades; my primary goal is to make it subjectively even better, secondary is to personalize it. This car is so dope that I keep waiting for them to hit the streets en masse, and that I need to make it my own before they're everywhere.
1b. As I mentioned in the post above, I have some syndrome where I crave the underdog experience. And I thrive in the challenge to overcome the underdog status. And then as much as I neurotically keep waiting for sales to skyrocket, I have another syndrome where I crave counterculture. People genuinely hate the X2. Cool, I belong in it then!

2a. It's torque limited electronically. Self protective? Self defeating? We'll find out!
2b. I spoke to a DCT shop. They said run it and if the clutches slip, I'll know it needs better clutches. And then I'll get bigger clutches.

I feel the same way about my U11 some days, wish it had more tq sent to the rear or a better BMW exhaust.

Honestly I think the car will be fine with the up grade now the tq steering might be next level, or maybe the LSD will do its job fine. Lots of work f unknowns for sure but you can always count on BMW and the Germans to over deliver on whatever numbers they print. I would be curious to see what a new intake manifold would also do. The ECU be locked really makes me always hesitant.
