App states a window is open??

Anyone else experiencing a window opening slightly even though it was not done so by anyone in X1?
I’ve seen it once or twice since I picked up 2024 x1 28 I in late December 2023 & it just happened again. (Not always the same window)

I just was the only one in it & went for a short drive. I know all were closed when I got in & parked it but app is saying one is open.

I don’t know if window is really open, perhaps by SUV or if app is in error.
I’ll check it out later when I go back into x1.

We had that happen several times in the first few months of ownership and it turned out the window was just open by a tiny amount. Not sure if the window control is prone to getting knocked??

that happens all the time. the BMW app is highly inaccurate sometimes.

like the boy who cried wolf, I don't really trust the app that much anymore. Sometimes it says one of the windows is open and I just kind of ignore it. Although if I'm bored enough, I fire up the interior camera to see if the window is indeed open.(100% of time, it's closed)

just look at what the BMW app told me earlier this week

What you experienced is exactly what has occurred with me. When I got back into my 2024 x1 the drivers side rear window was very slightly open. After I closed it, drive home & parked, the app is now saying all windows are closed.

Since I was alone in it & did not open any windows while I was driving, the question remains did I inadvertently press the window button or did the window open slightly because of something activated by its electrical system?

From what I can see the window switches on the door are in the same spot (arm rest) that my last several cars had & I’ve never saw this happen while owning them. So, going forward I guess I’m going to have to be more conscious to identify the problem & what the fix is.

I wouldn't worry about it. I took delivery of my exactly 10 months ago. It happens at least once every month or two.(only because I happen to be looking at the app) Mostly like a bug in the BMW app or in the BMW server.

Like I said, 100% of the time, it was false. Sometime it can be corrected by remotely locking/unlocking the car... or refreshing the app data by swiping from top to down.

That wasn’t the case for me. Like markronnie , i found one of the windows was slightly open albeit not visible. When pulling up on each of the windows on the drivers door, you’d hear one close and then the app would show all closed.

I’ve had the rear passenger window completely open by itself - while driving our X1 on a highway. I had both hands on the steering wheel so I know I didn’t inadvertently hit the window switch. It has only happened once - and I’m glad it wasn’t raining!

my neighbor has the 2021(?) X3. the tailgate opened on its own while she was backing out of the driveway. it only happened when the rear of the X3 was already a couple of feet out of the garage... otherwise, it would have been disastrous because the tailgate would have het the top of the garage door. IIRC, the dealer replaced some sensor or module in the tailgate to correct the problem.

although, there were already warning signs before that because sometimes the tailgate refused to close.(or closed halfway and then opened back up again)

I can't speak for the X1, but it happens all the time on my Porsche.

On that forum, it appears that if the app can't update with the car (bad signal) then it assumes the window is open. So it happens all the time!

Another issue people found sometimes worked was to 'reset' the window. Not sure how it's done on X1, but on Porsche, it's hold the window button (in the car) till the window is fully down, then hold it till fully up. This resets the open/closed points.

This stopped the app thinking the window wasn't closed properly.

I also frequently get message in app that a random window is not closed.
Looking at car, all appear shut.
Touching comfort access lock on door, or pressing lock on key for few seconds, window moves up slightly, then all are showing closed.

No idea why this keeps happening

I have experienced it 6 or 7x since receiving it last April. Five of the times, the gap to close was about 1/2 inch, but 2x it was down about 4 or 5 inches. I keep telling myself, did I touch the left rear window switch by accident ??? It has always been this particular window...

Now I see I am not the only one...

now that I think about it, the child safety window lock green LED on my X1 does randomly come on and off for no reason. sometimes even while I'm driving and my hand or arm was nowhere near it. not really sure why it does that.

Failing that I suggest you keep a clove of garlic in the ever so useful center console just in case.
fortunately, these paranormal occurrences have been nothing more than minor irritants. None has really affected normal driving, except the replacement of the electronic parking brake motor/module(but even that one was done because the dealer was being cautions)

extra garlic is not necessary as I incorporate garlic in most things that I eat or cook anyway.(too much garlic, to be honest)

This has happened to me. I happened to open the app and noticed it said a window was open. Wife had the car at work so I messaged her to check and all windows were up. Then the app updated the status correctly. I think it’s just buggy.

I get this too. On Saturday I returned to my X1 in a car park to find the rear left window almost completely open. And on a few occasions, I've checked the app and it says one is open and I've had to go out and close it. Normally it's less than a centimetre.

IIRC, on my last car (Mercedes) I could remotely close the windows with the app, and would get an alert if I'd left one open. That would be handy.

Then my memory has let me down! A notification would be useful though.

I notice it when you go into the app. I don't think you get "ALL GOOD" behind the picture of your car.
