Comfort Access (UK)

We have got our X1 landing soon, which has Comfort Access.

As its something I always avoided in the past for security (relay attacks) - is there a way to switch it off permanently?

Or have BMW got it sorted now with improved tech (Smart key etc)?

The key goes to sleep after its not moved for a few minutes so it shouldn't be a problem, or you can turn off comfort access in the settings.

I haven't touched either key since Day 1...I'm 100% using Digital Key Plus on my iPhone. Supposedly super-safe using UWB

Exactly the same for me. From day 1 without any problems.

Luckily X1/iX1 use UWB for keyless entry, which prevents relay attacks. You can check ADAC's article and PDF with all cars they've tested here: https://www.adac.de/rund-ums-fahrzeu...steme/keyless/

As of December 2023, only about 6% of recent car models use UWB.

Another quick question.

I was washing the car today with the key in my pocket and the car was locking / unlocking constantly.

Is there an easy way to disable the key / Comfort access in this instance?

Yes. From the settings menu.

I find it easier to just leave the keys in the house than tweak everything just for a wash of the car.

That wouldn't work for me - I'm not great at keeping my phone charged - so for added protection, I keep the key in a Faraday pouch when not in use - which is also necessary when I'm not driving, so that the car doesn't mix up the driver's identity.

Put your key in a faraday pouch

So Faraday pouch, car settings, or leave the key elsewhere.
Thanks for the replies.

Had just wondered if there was also the option to disable from the key itself (like Porsche) but obviously not.

I have only used the physical keys for a week since the day of purchase. I use my the UWB from my phone as the key, but I still get the same lock/unlock problem when washing the car due to the water from the pressure washer hitting the sensors on the underside of the door handles.

So, unfortunately, there is no “easy” solution to stop this other than disabling comfort access (including auto lock after a set period) for the car wash

This is what I do. I have a toggle in the pulldown menu for quick access to the auto lock settings since I valet my car frequently, makes it also convenient for when washing the car.
