If it’s like the other updates we’ve had so far, you download it through your MyBMW app on your phone and then can apply it to your car the next time you get in. So you can download off Wi-Fi in your home and not worry about signal.

It will download automatically to your phone IF that is that is the setting in your app. So if your in a bad cell area, but you have home wifi, it should be no issue to download to your phone.

Once it's downloaded to your phone, it will transfer to the car. The car will prompt you if it's ok to run the update, because the car will have to sit idle and off for 5-10 minutes. When you shut down, in addition to the prompts that appear on the screen (like the valet mode), it will ask if you want to run the update.

Just a quick one for those using the app sat nav via carplay, do you use "Waze" does it work or is "Waze" an app on the BMW ID system, not got my U11 yet but maybe the ones in the know could advise, many thanks

Waze works on Apple Car play but I don't believe it uses the HUD if you have one for the directions. Apple Maps does and I think Google maps might but not Waze unfortunately.

Correct - Apple Maps will display in the instrument panel or HUD; Waze and Google Maps will not.

I used the Beta version of Waze the other day on Android and, surprisingly, the directions did appear on the HUD.

Ha Ha. Just saying that it seems like the X1 does have the ability to display the information so long as the device connected can send it. Maybe sign up for the Beta version of Waze for iPhone and see if that works?

I honestly forgot about the existence of Android OS and phones. (although I still have my non-working original Palm Pilot somewhere in my house)

That made me wonder... I'm sure that with proper care, any modern BMW can still be driven 10 to 15 years from now, but how will the infotainment system cope with phones at that time? (assuming we are still using "smartphones" 10 to 15 years from now)

think the gps signal would get interference from the wireless charger signal, it would seem logical that they would interfere with each other

When using CarPlay the gps signal comes from the car, not the gps in the phone. BMW is feeding the phone janky data.

Yeah, I've gone a couple of weeks since the update testing Apple, Waze, and Google maps over the same roads which were always problematic for me prior to the update. I have seen no issues at all since the update.

Mine is definitely having the issue. Only had it a few weeks. Does it whether it’s in the wireless charger or not. Did it on ios16 and still on ios17. Google and Apple
Maps both show me 500-1000 feet away. BMW navigation is correct but the mybmw app shows my car in a completely different neighborhood! Rebooted idrive and that fixed it for that single trip. Got back in one hour later and it was wrong again.

This was fixed in May with a BMW software update. It's not an Apple issue.

No - it was pushed out OTA to my phone in May. I'm on 03/2023.45.

I think yes, it might be a dealer update. I had carplay gps drift on 03/2023. Took it to the dealer for a 07/2023 upgrade. No gps drift since!

I ran a software update in May myself thru the app that cleared this up.
