I used Apple Maps on the way home -- same deal. Works fine for about 5 minutes, then the location suddenly jumps off of the road about 50-100 feet and stays incorrect after that.

Yes, I have a 2023 three series, and it is fairly consistently showing significant GPS errors when in CarPlay.
I’ve contacted my dealership and they are looking into it. I even sent them links to these postings. I will say that they were quick to blame Apple. I’m not seeing this as an Apple issue alone. My wireless Bluetooth works great in my family’s two other cars (not BMWs). Anybody else have experience with dealership response? |

I'm going to bet that BMW won't own this one...right or wrong, they'll point to apple.
Btw, this doesn't happen on either of our BMWs (android) so why wouldn't this be a apple issue? And IMHO, I wouldn't see this as an NHTSA issue, but hey, they log just about anything these days.

Still nothing from BMW Genius. Will follow up tomorrow. I completely agree that it's hard to see this as an Apple issue based on the collective experiences here with other vehicles, and the fact that this wasn't happening with my same phone only one month prior in my previous 2020 x1.

I Tweeted @ BMW and Apple this morning with pix and a video of the issue. Here’s the reply I got. Good news, I guess.

Another data point: GPS drifted immediately upon starting directions. Ended up getting to be ~25 miles NW of us after comparing to a known intersection, but moving same direction. Strangely, as soon as we crossed a state border it jumped back to the road we were on and stayed accurate. Stayed accurate for our return trip too, including after crossing the state boundary, but we didn’t shut the car off completely (airport drop off).

Seems that way. I was basing comments on previous software issues that BMW normally chooses to ignore or pass off as someone else's issue I e. Android, apple etc

Pretty BS response from Genius that I just received. I sent them a link to this thread asking for more details on what the self-admitted problem is and what they know at this point about an intended fix. Honestly, I think my next step may be to file a consumer protection complaint with my local AG's office.
+++ Based on your description, please ensure that your iPhone has the most up to date iOS installed. I also suggest rebooting your iPhone by holding the side button until the power off slide button appears. Drag the slider and wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo. Once you have rebooted your iPhone, please ensure WiFi, Siri, and Bluetooth are turned on in your iPhone settings menu. I encourage you to establish a fresh connection between the phone and vehicle. I recommend deleting your iPhone pairing from the vehicle and pairing your phone back to the vehicle to connect your mobile devices. You can delete your phone by using the following steps in the vehicle: Via iDrive: "MENU" "All apps" "Mobile devices" "Delete device" The device is disconnected and removed from the device list. Once the phone is deleted in the vehicle, please also ensure your BMW is deleted from your iPhone Bluetooth menu by following the below steps: "Settings" "Bluetooth" Click the blue "i" next to your BMW "Forget this device" Now that the phone has been deleted off the vehicle and the vehicle off of your phone, proceed to connect your telephone back to the vehicle by following these steps: Via iDrive: "MENU" "All apps" "Mobile devices" "Connect new device": Devices detected by the vehicle are shown on the control display. Select the desired device. Compare the control number displayed on the control display with the control number in the display of the device and confirm that they match. Depending on the device, select connection mode if necessary: "Use Bluetooth" "Use Apple CarPlay" "Use Android Auto" If necessary, select the function for which the mobile device is to be used: Telephone Bluetooth® audio The mobile device is displayed in the device list. On your iPhone: "Settings" "General" "CarPlay" Click your vehicle's ID under "Available Cars." During the pairing of your telephone, your iPhone will ask if you would like to use Apple CarPlay. You can select "Use Apple CarPlay" to establish a connection to Apple CarPlay If necessary, I recommend rebooting the iDrive of your BMW. In order to reboot the iDrive, press down on the volume knob for about 70 seconds, the screen will go blank. If after attempting these steps you still have concerns, please contact your local BMW service center for further assistance. Should you need to access a list of our authorized BMW centers, please visit our website at: www.bmwusa.com, and select “Dealer Locator.” |

Didn't someone just post in this thread that there's a solution pending for the iPhone/GPS issue? Who gives a toss what the "genius" replied back with...but yeah, file a complaint with your AG...clog up the system even further for such a frivolous issue (use BMW nav until BMW/apple get the issue resolved).
Christ folks are wound tight. Boggles the mind

Oh, yes, some non-descript reply on Twitter that they were aware of the issue, and were working on it, with no real timeframe for a fix
