So I was driving home today and pulled up Google maps just to see, and I hade absolutely no issues. My drive was only about 4 miles in the city from the dealer to home, but it was rock solid

I gotta say, your strong response to do nothing and that I'm in the wrong boggles my mind.
A new $50K car rendering a key aspect of a phone completely useless (not just Nav, but other apps and phone features that use GPS which in 2023 are...most!) is a major safety issue. Trying to get BMW to urgently address it is more than a reasonable response, and based on their email to me today, at least the Genius rep doesn't seem to be acknowledging it's even a known issue! But at least I can say I pissed off a Canadian today. Quote:

As far as I can tell, there's no danger posed, since you can use BMW's nav until the issue is resolved. But hey, good luck filing the complaint. By the time the AGs office actually does anything, the issue will likely be resolved. EDIT: even $50k vehicles have issues. The price of a vehicle doesn't dictate the number of errors that could exist. Happens on 6 figure vehicles as well

We all took a flyer buying a brand new model sight unseen; there's bound to be glitches when that happens. |

There are two solutions to this problem.
1) Sell your car and get a car from another brand 2) Sell your phone and get an Android phone, as they 'just work' Last edited by staden; 01-18-2023 at 03:41 PM.. |

Man...the BMW Kool Aid is extra strong round these parts! Shame on me for expecting a new car that doesn't screw up my phone and trusted apps.
I downloaded the iDrive update tonight. Fingers crossed it fixes the issue and makes this all water under the bridge. |

I get your frustration, but I think we’ll be seeing problems like this more and more in the future, not just with BMW. Development for the software likely started well before iOS16 was released, so it’s possible they weren’t able to test everything to the fullest extent before it went into production. Cross platform compatibility will always have issues like this now that so many things are software based. If this update does take care of it, it’s likely they were aware of the issue but weren’t able to implement it during production for time constraints or other difficulties.

I have some news!
I tried the GPS on my way home from work ... it showed the correct location for the entire 10 miles in Apple Maps, Waze and Google Maps. Fingers crossed!! |

I wonder what’s going on. I’ve been using Apple Maps every time I drove in the past 2 days and it’s been perfect. Tried Google Maps once and that was also fine. I’ll try Waze tomorrow and see.

Mine was good for about 4-5 miles today, then suddenly jumped off course.

I have had version 11/2022.27 since day one when I picked up my car last year, and I have continued to have the problem since then and up until now.
Looks like it’s gonna be a while. |
