Is your console/app have update information? I noticed that @FlashMonkey929 has a more recent version of IDrive: iDrive software: 11/2022.44

I checked for updates this morning, and car says I am up to date. I have a 330e. The x’s may have a different version.

Mine seems to intermittently work fine. For instance, I have about a 20 mile trip to/from work. It starts in the city and then highway to suburbia. It worked on Apple and Google the whole drive in today. On my way home, the GPS lost it’s way on the highway, about 5 miles into my trip. *shrug*

My GPS seems to still be working fine, though I did find a certain section in a neighborhood where my music will cut out intermittently and today in that section my phone completely disconnected from the car for a few minutes. That area is known to have spotty radio reception, but I would think CarPlay should be unaffected since it's wi-fi and bluetooth based an only between the car and the phone.

to me, intermittent is a worse problem than just flat out not working. I can't rely on it; so if I'm taking a long trip that I need GPS for, how can I use these phone apps if I don't know if they are going to go haywire mid-trip? It's definitely too distracting to have to quit them and then switch to the factory nav while driving. RN it's been fine because I've just been testing in my area when I know where I'm going. But until I know it's fixed, if I actually need GPS for my journey, I'm going to have to use the factory system, which is fine, but Waze traffic data is probably much better.

Mine also bugged yesterday after the iDrive update. Having the phone on my lap/in the cup holder seems more dependable vs the wireless charger, which sends it into bug mode with more regularity. What a cool $500 accessory.

It is your iPhone causing the problem. Carplay is basically screen mirroring. (But it may use your cars built in GPS antenna to supplement its own, I'm not sure)

Yes something in the BMW connection/wireless charging might be interfering with the GPS. But we haven't heard about Android auto causing problems, so it looks like it is a bug with Apples software.

But it is up to Apple to fix, but obviously Apple aren't known for working well with others, so they would most probably expect BMW to do a recall of all their cars and to change the head units to a licenced 'works with apple' unit, instead of providing a software update to solve the issue.

While you could be right that it is a bug in the iPhone software, it could also be entirely true that it is on BMW’s end that something in iDrive 8 is coded wrong and is causing an issue with how the information is interpreted and displayed. Just because Android works fine doesn’t mean that it’s an error on Apple’s side. Apple also doesn’t charge manufacturers for the use of the CarPlay integration, and there is no “works with Apple” certification needed for head units.

Well then why did BMW respond to me that they are aware of the issue, and they are working on a fix?

Is everyone who has the problem on iOS 16.1.2 or higher? I’m still on 16.1.1 and still have yet to see any issues with GPS. Could be a protocol was updated in apples software and BMW hasn’t updated to compensate or has a bug in the coding causing the glitch.

I don't know if BMW has higher level employees answering questions on Twitter..... (or how much they are paid)

Mercedes USA has dedicated employees who answer customer questions on Twitter. They are paid around $13.99/hour(back in 2021).

Not saying that low-paying employees can't have the correct or honest answers all the time, but it's not very likely.

I agree, but they replied - twice. If it's just BS, they don't have to reply to a random Tweet. I'd have no idea who, if anyone, monitors their social media feed.

It's not showing as available on my phone; says I'm up to date. When I sync'd with my computer over the weekend, there was a note that a software update is available, but I didn't have time to be bothered at that moment. It'll show up on my phone soon.
